Berlin... my favorite place!

Over the most recent summer, I was invited to tour with a professional choir in eastern Europe. As a vocal music major, I have done the bulk of my college performances on the OU campus. This was such an exciting opportunity to perform in new places and meet such diverse groups of people! The head choir director was generous enough to allow my father to accompany me, making the trip particularly special as this was our first experience off of the North American continent. We spent the majority of our time performing in north Poland in various competitions, but my favorite place we visited was Berlin in Germany!

Berlin was gorgeous and full of history! We visited museums, Holocaust memorials and countless other compelling areas. We took river and bus tours, witnessing old and new architectural marvels as well as the less known industrial areas. We even had breakfast at the top of the TV tower (see the picture above) and we could see the entire city while reading about the history behind each building in our sight. All in all, it was such an awesome way to develop an interest in traveling. I can't wait to see where life takes me next!

  1. Oh my gosh, Hunter, that is SO COOL. My knowledge of Berlin is from going on the train back-and-forth between England and Poland (I was a Polish major in college, and did an M.Phil. in Polish in Oxford) -- this was back in the 1980s, with East Germany and divided Berlin, so the whole Berlin thing was very dramatic, with dogs patrolling the trains and looking to make sure they were no people trying to cross. Of course, it's a different world now, and all the better. I am excited that you got to travel to that part of Europe and to sing there. How wonderful! As you can guess, the musical traditions of India are pretty amazing; I hope this class can be a chance for you to learn about that, along with the epics. :-)

    1. Thank you! Your travels sound even more exciting! I would love to visit London someday. We actually saw a lot of different pieces of the wall- some on display and some still standing in place! I do not have a lot of experience with Indian music, but I am always excited and intrigued by the music of other cultures. I am definitely hoping to receive some insight on the subject!
