Hello, all!
For those who do not know me, which is likely everyone who is reading this post, my name is Hunter Watson and I am from McKinney, Texas. I am a junior music major at the University of Oklahoma, studying vocal performance. I grew up singing anything and everything I could get my hands on, including pop, country, R&B, musical theatre, and so on. However, in a university setting, our primary focus is on classical music- particularly opera. The coolest thing about being a vocal performance major is getting to perform in lots of different operas that feature eccentric costumes, beautiful sets, talented musicians and beautiful music. Though it isn't likely, you might have seen me and some wonderful fellow musicians in last semester's production of Bluebeard's Castle and L'enfant et les Sortilèges!
Growing up in McKinney, I always had a loving family and great friends! I have two older siblings, a brother and sister, and two dogs that I love very much. My family and friends have always pushed me to be the best version of myself.
Some other general things about me: my favorite movie is The Lion King. The best movie I've seen recently is probably the newest Avengers movie. I know it came out a while ago, but I love super-heros and just can't seem to get over that one. My favorite TV shows are The Office, Friends and How I Met Your Mother. I would say I have a favorite genre of music, but that would be a lie and a crime for a musician to say. I wish I was more into reading, but truthfully I am never patient enough to finish a book! My favorite food is anything Italian, though I recently took an Italian class and uncovered that Olive Garden is far from authentic Italian food. Though I feel like a bit of a phony, I don't think I'm ready to give it up quite yet. I also love video games and will get pretty unruly when it comes to a game of Super Smash Bros.
And that's pretty much all there is to me! I love to sing, eat, sleep and be merry! I am excited to read some other posts and get to know some of our classmates. Thank you for reading!

Hey Kevin. That is super cool that you are studying vocal performance. You got me at Italian Food and Super Smash Bros. Italian food is the best type of food their is hands down, anyone else's opinion is false. Joking. Olive Garden may not be authentic Italian food but it is still so delicious. I can never turn down a great meal from Olive Garden. I love Super Smash Ultimate. I am deadly with Cloud, well I would like to think I am. I hope you have a great time writing more blogs!

DeleteHi Kevin! It is great to meet you! Your major sounds absolutely amazing. I actually have been singing since the third grade, but kind of stopped when I reached college. I am glad you continued to pursue your passion! Also, I was literally dying laughing at your Olive Garden comment. I do not go to Olive Garden very much, because I only like three things on their menu. I hope you enjoy your semester and continue writing great blogs!

DeleteI 100% agree with you, Italian food is amazing. I don't think I could ever pick out a favorite dish but risotto is amazing. I think your major sounds awesome, and I think its cool how passionate you are. In regards to Smash Bros, I love that game. Its probably up there with Mario Kart, but in all honestly, I'm pretty horrible at both of them. Being so bad doesn't discourage me from playing though. I am not known to turn down a game of Mario Kart.

ReplyDeleteYou just seem like an amazing friend to have wow. You have the most incredible taste in movies and tv show. Literally everything that you have listed is my favorite. I am still waiting for and Friends and The Office reunion episode. I am keeping my fingers crossed. You had my dying at the Olive Garden comment. I would agree to that because it is the same way with Asian food. I still live for Olive Garden because a girl loves her carbs and the shrimp scampi it so die for. If you have a favorite meal let me know and I will try it! I have yet to have an Italian dish and not love it.
Hey Kevin! I'm also a vocal performance major at the University of Oklahoma, what a coincidence! It sounds like you have a really cool and supportive family, I only have one sibling but I did grow up with 3 dogs. I love superheroes too, my favorite is Spiderman but recently I've been getting that I look like Aquaman so hes grown on me as well. Also, the woman with the cup on her head in that pic seems like an amazing, beautiful, and talented person. Great getting to know you!
ReplyDeleteHere I am finally getting to read your Introduction Hunter... and what a great photo! I remember including Bluebeard's Castle and L'enfant et les Sortilèges in the class announcements (I learn about events from the campus calendar and Twitter too). This semester you need to make sure to let me know if you are in any performances this semester. The most fun announcements about campus events are ones where people from class are actually involved! And about opera: I was just reading a book last weekend about Khon mask theater and also shadow puppet traditions in South Asia, and it said the closest comparison in the West would be opera, because it is all about the beautiful costumes and sets AND the singing AND the music. Total theater! So definitely let me know what opera events I can share with the class, and I also hope this class will be a chance for you to explore these arts in a new part of the world.

ReplyDeleteYou seem like you enjoy studying music here in the University of Oklahoma. My friend was in a drama class and watching an OU performance was required. She went and fell in love with the performances. I have yet to go a production although my friend goes every year and raves about how awesome they are. I hope to go one day! Also, I love Super Smash Bros. My favorite character is Kirby!

Hi Hunter! Enjoyed reading your introduction post! Also that is awesome you are a music major! I am a music major myself, majoring in saxophone performance. I know the struggles and pain of music classes so I hope you are surviving! Also cool to know you are from Mckinney, I am from Flower Mound Tx so not to far from where you live.

ReplyDeleteIt is really nice to at least electronically meet you! I have quite a few friends that are in vocal performance here and then many who are within the drama department. I think it is really interesting to be a vocal performer! I was once a music minor, but switched because I knew music theory would kick my butt. However, I have played the trumpet since I was in fourth grade and I was even in the marching band here at OU. I like Italian food quite a bit, but I absolutely love Thai and Korean food. Also, I enjoy watching other people play Super Smash Bros., but I am really bad at it.

ReplyDeleteI know the feeling about Italian food!!! When I went to Italy last summer I realized that a lot of the food is much different than what I had been eating most of my life. The host of our Airbnb took us to her favorite pizza place and made my mom and I try pistacio pizza (didn't really sound great to me but decided to give it a try) and it was SO amazing. They made the pistacios a paste and used it instead of the normal sauce and it was incredible. You should give it a try if you're ever given the option!
Hi Hunter! I was not expecting to end up reading your introduction, but hi! I hope you're doing well! I love that you are studying vocal performance! You always had an amazing voice, so I love that you are still doing that. I love all of the Avengers movies and I am super excited for the new Avengers movie to come out in April! I love all the Marvel movies, honestly. I also love The Office, Friends, and How I Met Your Mother! New Girl is a really good show too, I feel like you might like that, but I'm not sure! I've been trying to read more, but life always gets so busy, so I never have time. I loved getting to read a little more about you and I really hope you have a great rest of your semester! I look forward to reading more of your blogs.

ReplyDeleteIts nice to meet you! I think it is great that you are a singer! I wonder if I have seen you at any of the shows? One of my favorite shows is how I met your mother too! I just re-watched it for like the tenth time because it never gets old. I really like your intro because it just seems like you’re a really upbeat fun person and I can appreciate that!
