Extra Reading: Jataka Tales

Bibliography: Noor Inayat, The Two Pigs, The Two Pigs

*At this point, I'm just picking these Jataka tales at random: they're all very fun to read and give lots of ideas for future stories!

*Two young pigs were laying/hiding(?) in the grass when they heard the sound of footsteps. It was an old lady, and she brought the little pigs home to care for them.

*They lived happily, until one day the people in the town were having a feast. They ran out of meat at the feast and the townspeople went to the old lady's house.

*They all call the old lady "mother" for some reason, and they implore her to give them the pigs. She says no, but they get her drunk and she offers one of them to her.

*Suspecting they are going to be eaten, one of the pigs tells his brother that he fears they are going to die. The older pig (older i think??) says a poetic little phrase that inspires the younger pig to not fear death.

*All of the townspeople, both at the house and even those who weren't, were drawn in by the sound of this blessed pig's voice, and brought to tears by his words.

*He essentially tells them that many who are alive are still unhappy, and many who are dead find happiness they never knew while alive. And that love is the only thing that really gives someone happiness.

*Then, the king of all the townspeople allows the pigs to live at his castle. He bathed them in wonderful perfumes and the older, blessed pig gave counsel to those in need from the town.

*Eventually, the king dies. Rather than taking his place, the pigs leave the town and go to live in the forest.

*Though the pigs leave the city, their influence remains and justice, peace and love never leave the city again. And, duh, they all live happily ever after.
